“I have always been that one person who is obsessed with the ocean. I fell in love with the marine life so when I found scuba diving it became this thing that allowed me to feel connected to the ocean and be part of it.
I had heard of SYDF through a friend and at that time I was in my next steps in my diving career to become a Master Scuba Diver to which you need a certain number of dives and speciality certifications. I applied not really knowing what it was about and was very successful.
I managed to go away and complete my course while keeping the team at SYDF up to date with photos of my progress. The following year I wanted to develop my diving further by completing the first professional step into diving which was my Dive Master, so again I applied and was super grateful with the success of my application that I was able to achieve these goals in my life that wouldn’t be possible without them.”
“I then went off to university the following year and was chosen to be on the HSE Commercial Scuba Diving course. This course came at a price but again without applying for the sports grant through SYDF I would not have been able to participate in this course to which I have learnt how to use full face masks, underwater comms, underwater photography, lift bags, buddy lines, knots, rope signals and much more.
So now thanks to SYDF I am a Divemaster and a HSE SCUBA Diver and still branching out for more opportunities such as my next goal is to complete my Scuba Diver Instructor which will further my diving skills and open many doors for my future career. A take home message I would like to share is if you don’t apply you don’t know what amazing opportunities you could be missing out on.”
